cinco de mayo

Could not love them any more!!!!!!
We celebrated Cinco De Mayo a day late with a fiesta.
Cute mexican dresses and nachos made it a party at the Polischuk's.

We read that the holiday is celebrated in honour of freedom and democracy.  Amelia asked me what the word democracy meant?  It was a great little conversation.  Although I miss having a baby, I am loving this season of questions and independence.

kitty love

Our women are lovers of animals. Often they even pretend to BE animals!

We went to visit Great-Grandma Lorincz and her kitties Buddy and Rudy.  It was a sweet afternoon of visiting, petting kitties and pretending to be kitties.  At one point Amelia even told Grandma that she "could be a Grandma Kitty and I could be a Mommy Kitty".  Love it!  They enjoyed climbing on the cat toys and playing around.  When Grandma served ice cream they suddenly became little girls again, it was the best afternoon!!!

The girls like to play pretend and have a few favourite animals.  Stella is often a baby panda, a kitty compete with meowing, she also dresses in our chicken costume and has been known to wear that for long periods of time. Amelia like to play gorilla, especially with her dad. Fun times!

Kids rock!

walk on

We have been incredibly busy at our house lately.
Hosting Joy School, teaching Primary Sharing Time at church and hosting family and friends.  Oh and Graham has had some demanding stuff at work.   As I try to catch up on our blog he is down stairs working at his computer on this chilly Sunday afternoon.  Poor dude got a call from work so has been on his computer in my craftroom since we got home from church, this doesn't happen to often thank goodness :(  The Polischuk residence has seen a ton of visitors lately. Graham and I counted that we have had company for 7 weeks in a row!!!  We do love hosting so it is all good, but it has been a continual bed stripping/bed making routine.  It all caught up with me last week when I had a little break down and my sister came to the rescue!!!  She took my ladies and I came home to CLEAN, yes clean because when my house is in order I mentally feel more in order.   It seems a bit silly because many families have much more on the go, many more children, many more responsibilities pulling at them but alas for us we've been busy, busier then our usual little routine.

So a bit of our life as of late...

We went visiting Auntie Linda's Farm, my Grandma's sister.  It is always such fun! Love the baby chicks.  Amelia prayed in the morning that she would be able to safely hold the chicks herself without help, her prayers were answered. (cutest thing ever) Sadly, Alyson had a sick babe so she couldn't join us we just stole Jacey for the afternoon.

Cousins slacking and watching movies while moms make meals. Television can be a powerful tool in our house.  The less it is used the more captivating it is when on....muwahhhhhh!!!!!  This was clearly evidenced as we prepared over 40 meals in 2 days. Yeah us!!!  The first day awesome, the second day thank goodness Graham was around to help entertain and keep kids safe.  We have done meal prep a few times and each time we have gotten more efficient and refined our recipes. Our meals worked out to $5 each for a family of 4. Next we would like to venture into crock pot meal prep.

We still don't have a yard  (this is annoying and a whole blog post unto itself) but have gotten outside as much as we can. Sidewalk chalk is out in full use and the bikes can be seen going up and down the driveway with lovely girls on them. We did wake up to snow today so that was sad! I have also been a canvasser for the Canadian Diabetes Association and am grateful for the opportunity to serve that organization.

We are walking along, enjoying our days!  Trying even when we feel overwhelmed or grumpy.  I saw this fabulous print and want to make it for my livingroom because it is AWESOME;
Free Spring Printable Download from Paper Coterie
So we walk on and CHOOSE HAPPY!!!  Took these last few pics of my little sweethearts today after church today and frankly they are reason enough to choose happy...just look at these gems.

Walk on and Choose Happy I say!!!!!

painting instead of printing at Joy School

We get to host Joy School this month and have been having a super fun time!  We combined the letter 'Y' with our art.  I put a bunch of random items on the table and different colours of paint. They could use whatever they liked but needed to camouflage a 'Y' somewhere in their art.  They had a blast, I had a blast watching! The most popular items were the pepper, the lasagna noodle and toilet paper roll. Totally need to do it again with different items.

puddle jumping

We went out walking for Family Home Evening and I loved watching them!!!!!!! We talked about choices and they each got a CTR Choose-The-Right ring from my Primary stash. It was all pretty spontaneous.  It was a lovely evening, we hadn't been outside much sadly and so walking to check the mail on the path behind our house seemed like a good idea. Amelia ended up wearing both CTR rings by the end of the night and I LOVE the picture of her with 'her' rings, so Amelia ha!  I love Stella's little kid hands picking up sticks, splashing in the water. Stella has smiles in most of the pictures from the walk, we need to get out more as a family. There is just a hint of her babyness left in those hands, I kiss them and her cheeks often because she is morphing to a big kid so darn quick.  I can't wait for our yard to be done so we can all enjoy grass.  In the mean time there are just little, sweet things I don't want to forget and they often happen in the unplanned, spontaneous moments. In this case on the path behind our house.

gratitude for our girls

These girls have our hearts for sure!
Some sweetness, some sass and some strength.
We are grateful for them.

These pics were from a day when we had a tea party to attend. Oh my darlings.

We had a scare recently with our big girl.  Her lymph nodes were quite swollen and after a round of antibiotics we went back to her pediatrician.  He sent her for blood work and ultra sound, he wanted it done asap, like that day.  This totally caught me off guard, as we were expecting another round of antibiotics...it was scary.  Our pediatrician said he was concerned, not worried but wanted to check things out.  Goodness, I held it together throughout the day but was pretty worried that night.  What I thought would be a quick appointment turned into a day of appointments at the Stollery.  I must say I am grateful that things happened so quickly, LOVE our pediatrician and trust his judgement.  Grateful to live in a place where it was no cost to me as we had access to a day of services for my girl. Our pediatrician was Jacey's doctor first and we snuck into him because of our cousin, normally you have to get referred in order to see him.   The tests he did came back fine but he referred us to a pediatric surgeon.  We met with the surgeon yesterday and it was fine too, he did an x-ray saying he would only call if he needed to and not to lose any sleep about the lumps. Whew!!!!!!!!!  It has been a relief.  We (I) have been thinking lots these last few weeks of the fragility of live and the privilege it has to have these precious girls as our daughters.  To even have a sliver of fear that there could be something 'not good' going on was scary. Some special things I need to remember about this experience is the power of a priesthood blessing, Graham gave Amelia a blessing and it brought us all some peace and helped give us courage.  Also a few tender mercies occurred on the long day of unexpected testing. I hadn't at all prepared for hours of waiting in labs or for an ultrasound. I had a few pens and papers and one healthy snack.  When we went for blood work there was this young engineering student who started talking to the girls, he worked at the Telus World of Science and asked if the girls wanted to do some origami while we all waited.  He introduced himself to me and shook my hand...made the wait pass quickly.  When we went for the ultrasound Amelia didn't know what to expect, was afraid but everything was ok once the tech introduced herself as Anna, you know like the sister from FROZEN...she quickly won over my big girl. It seemed that we had these tender mercies throughout our day.  I kept it together until after bedtime when both Graham and I shed tears  and said prayers. Again yesterday we said prayers of gratitude and shed tears.

some snipping

A few months ago when we were at the museum and found these super cool little grass guys.  They came with everything needed, we just had to add water.  Graham did the first hair cut not really understanding that hey, the kids are the ones that get to do the cutting.  So recently when the grass got long enough Amelia got snipping.  It was pretty fun to watch her trim away.
