EASTER eats n treats

We are lucky to live relatively close to family and old friends.  A weekend trip can enable us to gather together.  We were thirlled to have the Birds, Jacobers and a Robertson duo over for Easter dinner.  It was a blast!!!!  All of the little women had fun playing and getting reacquainted.  For the dinner we tried to go all Ukrainian with perogies, cabbage rolls and nylishnky, it turned out ok. Feeding a crowd will continue to come with practice...I hope.  The evening was spent playing with the littles downstairs and after bedtime the adults got competitive around the kitchen table playing 'Things in a Box'.  Seriously good times.

The Easter bunny visited us on Saturday morning and even found the Jacober girls.  The girlies did a great job hunting for eggs and sharing the findings.  They look so darling together.  It is going so be pretty crazy in another ten years when we hook up and have four teenage girls together!!!  Love them.

Ember 4.7 years    Eden 2.5 years   Stella 22 months   Amelia 3.10 years

We snapped some family shots and did our best impressions of the Easter Bunny.

A wee bit of Easter prep at the Polischuk's

Bring on Easter, Bring on Spring I say!!!!

We are totally psyched up for Easter this year.  One thing about our ladies getting older is that holidays are soooooo fun!  For Family Home Evening we discussed the Easter story, talked about how Jesus was Resurrected and then took the evening to put up decorations. Fun!  The window decals are rearranged daily.

Decorating eggs has become a bit of a tradition for us and everyone got in on the action.  Last year it seemed like a dozen wasn't enough but the 18 I boiled this year seemed like a bit much, oh well.  I can't believe that there weren't any egg casualties in the process and in the end I thought they looked lovely resting on our kitchen table.

We are excited to host the Jacober family and have the Birds come too!  Amy's brother and his GF will also get in on some Ham and Ukrainian food.  Should be a fun time.

Also to be noted: Amelia is obsessed with Jesus being resurrected and the fact that we will all be resurrected.  We had a great lesson about Easter at church and it is amazing all that little folk actually take in, she shares a lot of correct information with us almost daily.  Crazy!

Keeping Busy

Winter days can be long!!!!!!!!!!
Even with visits to the library, Joy School, swimming lessons and gymnastics sometimes the winter days just seem long.  We have been keeping busy around here with some ideas from Pinterest, love me that Pinterest.  It is funny how the kitchen table really is the hub of the home, not only used for meals.  The girls and I have fun trying out new things and experimenting together.  It is doing fun stuff that helps us fall in love all over again!  I fall in love with their creativity, their bravery and smarts.  They continually impress me.

I can take no credit for these ideas, I was inspired by Pinterest and just made them happen at home!!!

the effects of playing hard and Oilers hockey

It is pretty rare that our big girl falls asleep anywhere but her bed unless she is exhausted.  It happened tonight after helping dad take down the Christmas lights and having some serious fun outside, apparently eating 'snow cookies' (crusty snow-gross!!!!).  I am personally against eating snow PERIOD but daddy was outside with her so ya know.  A fun day and some boring Oilers hockey lead to this adorable pose.  What a sweet chick!!!

Baby Cakes

I told my little Stella that she was my "Baby Cakes" and she said back to me "yes baby cakes, baby cakes"....seriously sweet.  Oh my heart be still with her cuteness!!  There are times when she is an absolute challenge, the woman has a stubborness like I've never seen but she does have a charming sweetness to her that melts your heart. Love her!

Photos of the Ladies

Grandma Hinko wanted some new pictures of our girlies so we had a little photo shoot.  As is the case with little people we didn't have a huge window of happiness but we did get some cute ones.  Love these chicks!

And below is the money shot, the 'how' of getting any smiles!!!! Adorbs though, adorbs!

Sickos

A whole lot of icky sicky people at our house these past few weeks.  Poor Amelia had a cold turned ear infection.  Stella battled that same head cold but it got nasty this week when the flu hit both of them!!!! Bahhh sickness sucks.  It stinks to watch your babes being sick.  We have missed a ton of fun things we've had planned but rest is important.....so we just chill out at home.  I can get cabin fever so have enjoyed the post bedtime grocery runs alone, you know getting to see the outside world.  I am grateful though that it is easy to pull the plug and just slow things down so we can get over the sickness.  Even though they weren't feeling good they still flashed me smiles (well sorta for Stella).  Miss Amelia is even holding her medicine cup, ha!  Poor girlies.  A lot of movies in mom n dad's bed and a few boxes of Popsicles - you know to keep them hydrated.

Here is hoping things are going to be healthier at the Polischuk's.
Oh and snapped a pic of this little lovely kleenex pile, yep almost the whole box.

Birthday Dinner

We gathered together for a little dinner in honour of Grandma's birthday.  We knew a few of the grandkids wouldn't be there so we brought them...sorta.  It is always so nice to just be together and celebrate special days. Such fun!

Grandma came to stay out on the east side to prep. some freezer meals for the Birds.  We hammered out nearly 20 meals for when Alyson's babe is born and decided to have a little impromptu birthday dinner.

Little Helper

Amelia Ann was totally into helping her Dad this past weekend.  After watching him hammer nails to hang frames she got into it herself.  I snuck in and snapped some pictures of them practicing in the garage.

Our Nest

We are continuing on with our decorating, you know making our house a home. I just kept thinking after we finished "man this nest is best".... clearly reading Dr. Seuss lately. :P    I have been itching to finish up our bedroom, so we took a rare slow Saturday and Graham started hammering.  He is seriously an awesome hubs when it comes to this kind of stuff.  He will oblige my vision!  Love that guy.

Above our bed is a collection of frames we had in our old house but I added some cool prints found for free on Pinterest (where else?!).  The big 'P' has floated around for a few years resting in various places, I like where we have it now.  I am pleased with how it all turned out.

Always in need of storage to hide things we picked up the grey cube shelf from IKEA and then traded out Graham's night stand for a grey and white dresser to tie in more grey.

I love that our new master has a bit more space so we were able to use the chairs Graham had redone for my birthday/anniversary gift.  I found these gems at a garage sale in Fort McMurray and they have kicked around for a few years being all burnt orange and in need of stain.  I dig the hounds tooth and dark stain that Mr. P chose.

A friend suggested globes on our ledge and another friend found an old suitcase at the dump. Boom!  I am excited to add more globes.  I seriously LOVE 'making our nest'... I have such fun planning, creating a vision and having it come together.

Fun!

Night Out for GRIT

Last night we were lucky to be able to attend a fundraising event for GRIT, which is the program Jacey has been apart of for the last two years and will to participate in again next year.  It has been an amazing support for the Bird family.   They have provided a worker, connections to OT and PT, as well fabulous workshops for GRIT families.  I personally have learned so much just being the Auntie.  GRIT has been amazing and fabulous for Miss Bird so we jumped at the chance to attend the fundraising event and it ROCKED!!  They had Jason Strudwick as the MC (which the husbands loved because he is a retired Oiler) but they also had a silent auction with various prizes ranging from a Jersey to GRIT children's art.  The entertainment was fantastic too, beautiful piano by a former little GRIT girl who began playing piano as therapy.  There was a tenor group, a great local musician and each was interspersed with messages from GRIT families sharing their experiences.  It was a wonderful night!  Also so fun attending with the Birds (loving Alyson's adorable baby belly!)

St. Patty's Party

 A Cousin's St. Patrick's Party

Living close to family is such a great thing.  We have been talking about getting the 'next generation' of cousins together (my cousins kiddos) and it finally happened.  Gotta love the smiles and flashes of green!  It was a potluck green lunch, some shamrock necklace making and gold coin tossing....it equaled fun!!  Kouper and Jaxon, along with their momma Jeanine and Grandma Paula hosted.  It was actually rather impressive to see the littles folk get along pretty well and it was great to get to visit as a bunch of momma's.
