DIY: Painting the Dining Room Rug

In the middle of the night while feeding baby Stella what is a girl to do?
Well this girl uses her cell phone and reads design blogs, mommy blogs, goes on facebook and pins a ton of stuff on Pinterest.  In my late night web surfing of blogs I came across a cool idea again and again, painting a rug!  So I thought I would give it a try.

The process was pretty easy. Measure and tape out the design I wanted and paint away.  It took two coats to have it looking good.  The rug was a 5 year old pick up from IKEA and had really taken a beating since Amelia joined our family.  Chocolate milk and spaghetti spills, but it looked awesome after the makeover.  I love the feeling of completing a project!

Put her on the payroll

I think we'll keep this big girl, she is quite the helper.  Perhaps we should put her on the payroll.

We'll keep her just because she is so darn cute!

Halloween Crafting n Cuteness

Jars decorated with strips of tissue paper, candle to be added for Halloween night...
Auntie Leslie, Kingston, Amelia and I made these.
Paper Pumpkins...
I am actually not real big on Halloween, more of a fan of decorating for Fall BUT one of the things that I love about being a momma...holiday crafts, celebrating, decorating.  Last year I was totally whacked out being pregnant and honestly eating, sleeping and keeping Amelia content was all I could do.  So this year, bring on the holidays woot, woot. I recently found some fun activities on Pinterest. Such a blast creating with Miss Mia.  I am looking forward to this cutie pie joining us the kitchen table crafting away next year.
 She is seriously cute right?

Go Oilers Go

I love this pic of Amelia in her new jersey chanting 'Go Oilers Go'!!!! What a cutie pie!!
So the story of our little family's devotion to The Oilers goes as follows:
I always knew that the person I chose to marry would need to like hockey so they could have at least one thing to talk with my dad about, however Graham is even more hardcore then my pops.  And my dad, well he is pretty hardcore.  My dad has won hockey pools and would call home from work to remind us to record the game on  VHS (oh the days before PVR). Now I'm married to Graham who also wins hockey pools but PVRs the games.
My Mr. P, the dude is an Oilers fan from way back.  He says that 1979 was a great year because he was born that year and the Oilers franchise joined the NHL.  He has a ton of love for the Oil and is sharing his love with his little girlies.  Both Amelia and Stella have Oilers jammies which are often pulled out of the pj drawer.
Oh I should also put in writing that Mr.P and I have a deal in regards to the Oilers.  Wait for it...for every year we have season tickets, he owes me a dance class.  Oh ya!!!!  He actually owes me 4 classes now, I haven't forgotten and will hold him to it at some point.  I just really want to be that couple at weddings that rip it up on the dance floor all classy and cool.

Oilers oh Oilers!!!

Cousins Kickin it...Colouring

We just LOVE LOVE LOVE play dates, especially with cousins!
It is such fun watching the wee folks interact and play together. Something super neat often occurs after play dates...new skills, new words, new interests usually good.
Also not to be underestimated, the visiting that the mommas get to do is pretty good too.

A Mouse Kind of Day

We have a fan of Minnie & Mickey and honestly the whole gang, Goofy and Pluto too!
Recently Amelia requested that she wear her Minnie shirt and then when it came time to dress sister Stella the Minnie sleeper was pulled from the dresser.  So of course a photo op of my girlies.  Oh fun times, opinions on clothing have begun...how long will I be in control of the wardrobe.  At least a certain Elmo dress is finally to small and has gone to a better place.

Stella has hands!

It is interesting the things we treasure, the moments we commit to memory.
There is such joy in watching the growth and discovery that happens with my little ladies!
I feel so darn lucky to spend my days with them.
I've been watching Miss Stella, waiting for her to make a discovery that seems a little odd but is special to me.  I've been waiting for her to discover that she has hands! For some reason this little discovery babies make seems especially monumental to me.  It makes me get all philosophical wondering what they'll end up doing with those hands, hoping I can help teach them to use their hands for good. It must be neat for them too, to discover 'hey those things work for me, come on let's grab that rattle please'. Anyway, I love it!  Stella made the discovery last week while sitting in her recliner chair.  Since she has started being more content on her own I'll offer her a rattle or ring, wrap her little fingers around it and see how long that lasts.  Well, she held on and kept looking at it, she was just shy of being 4 months old. Oh my sweet girl!  I love this pic of her checking out her hand, awesome!!!
I just had to dig up a few pics of Amelia discovering her hands to reminisce a bit.  I love the family one below, taken when we were in Banff for my Birthday/our Anniversary in 2009.  Yes, Mia was far more into her hand that day then family self-takes.  A great memory though!
Oh hands, was a good plan it was to add them to our bodies.
