Amelia's view of the world

I often find random pictures on my camera from Miss Amelia.
Mr. P suggested I do a post with a collection of her pictures.
She is actually getting pretty good with a camera!

Oh our Amelia, she is an interesting lady who is starting to take good pics.

Put the cell phone down Jenny...putting First things First!

Habits! Some we form are good, like brushing our teeth, saying our prayers but then there are other things that develop into bad habits.  I am beginning to feel like my relationship with my cell phone has become a bad habit!

I follow a bog called 'nieniedialogues' (which is awesome btw) but she posed the thought, "How will my children remember me?" or something close to that.  She was writing in regard to her time spent either on the computer or cell in hand.  AHHHHH!!! It was was a mini light bulb for me.  How do I want Stella and Amelia to visualize me as their momma....certainly not with my cell phone as an appendage of my body, worse yet engaged with IT instead of them.

There was a time early in Stella's life when she was in her height of being a fussy, high needs baby where I would honestly say Pinterest and my cell helped keep me sane.  Joking aside I honestly said thanks for these tools in my prayers.  Stella would be crying in the sling and I would be bouncing, kinda zoning out looking on Pinterest.  During Stella's feedings her and I would curl up in the rocker, cell phone in hand (with 3G network).   Stella used nursing not just as a source of food but also comfort, it is just what she needed!  She nursed a ton more and for longer then her big sister, each kiddo is just so different. Around this time Amelia watched far too much television for my liking but we were in survival mode. Here is the thing though, now I don't need these tools anymore. Sure Facebook is great to feel connected with the outside world on days when we stay home and Pinterest is such a good source of inspiration HOWEVER, now I need to realign my priorities and reorganize my time.  My blog, I look at this as an investment in our family history - I will print it out at some point, I really will!!!  Design blogs, whilst soooooo cool and good when building a new house can really eat up time.  Time is so precious!  I really try to keep my computer time to naps and bedtime but my phone....yep we need some time apart.  I need to ask myself, "Have I done the other things I should be doing?".  Habits man, they can be so great or soooo not.  Read this talk and wanted to tie it to my post on habits because there is such good counsel given here on priorities, which often evolve into habits.

I just love these 3 other Polischuk Peeps and want to reset my priorities to be a better lady.

Keeping Your Life in Balance
By Elder M. Russell Ballard
Coping with the complex and diverse challenges of everyday life, which is not an easy task, can upset the balance and harmony we seek...You will need a strong commitment and personal discipline to incorporate them into your life.

1. Establish Priorities
Think about your life and set your priorities. Find some quiet time regularly to think deeply about where you are going and what you will need to do to get there. Jesus, our exemplar, often “withdrew himself into the wilderness, and prayed” (Luke 5:16). We need to do the same thing occasionally to rejuvenate ourselves spiritually as the Savior did.
Write down the tasks you would like to accomplish each day.
2. Set Attainable Goals
Set short-term goals that you can reach. Set goals that are well balanced—not too many nor too few and not too high nor too low. Write down your attainable goals and work on them according to their importance.
3. Budget Wisely
Everyone faces financial challenges in life. Through wise budgeting, control your real needs and measure them carefully against your many wants in life. The prophet Jacob said to his people: “Wherefore, do not spend money for that which is of no worth, nor your labor for that which cannot satisfy” (2 Nephi 9:51).
4. Build Relationships
Stay close to your parents, relatives, and friends. They will help you keep a balance in your life. Build relationships with your family and friends through open and honest communication.
Good family relationships can be maintained through gentle, loving, thoughtful communication. Remember that often a glance, a wink, a nod, or a touch will say more than words. A sense of humor and good listening are also vital parts of good communication.
5. Study the Scriptures
Search the scriptures. They offer one of the best sources we have to keep in touch with the Spirit of the Lord.
6. Take Care of Yourself
Many people, including me, have difficulty finding the time for sufficient rest, exercise, and relaxation. We must schedule time on our daily calendars for these activities if we are to enjoy a healthy and balanced life. Good physical appearance enhances our dignity and self-respect.
7. Live the Gospel
The prophets have taught repeatedly that families should teach one another the gospel, preferably in a weekly family home evening.
8. Pray Often
My last suggestion is to pray often as individuals and as families. You can know the right decisions to make each day through constant, sincere prayer.
Stay Focused and Do Your Best
Often the lack of clear direction and goals can waste our time and energy and contribute to imbalance in our lives. A life that gets out of balance is much like a car tire that is out of balance. It will make the operation of the car rough and unsafe. Tires in perfect balance can give a smooth and comfortable ride. So it is with life. The ride through mortality can be smoother for us when we strive to stay in balance. Our main goal should be to seek “immortality and eternal life” (Moses 1:39). With this as our goal, why not eliminate from our lives the things that clamor for and consume our thoughts, feelings, and energies without contributing to our reaching that goal?
Just do the very best you can each day.

Some good really wise words! Noted.

Lucky to have THEM!

Parenting is better then I thought but also tougher then I thought.
As we are apart from Mr. P his role in our family is recognized all the more because we totally miss the guy!!! Going solo is not cool.  I am grateful for the kindness of my parents, all that they do to help me out and thankful my little brother is still at home, the kid rocks with the girls.

Our ladies, oh our ladies how lucky we are to have them.
Every night when I crawl into bed (missing Mr. P to warm my feet against) I evaluate the day and there are a ton of "I could have done betters..." the crazy thing is that in the morning our beautiful girls give me a fresh start.  An opportunity to be better and try again. Sometimes I think we need to be more like them in giving ourselves that clean slate.
My momma says that parenting is hard and different then any other job because we are so emotionally invested and feel the weight this great responsibility. Yes, that kind of sums it up.
Grateful for our girls and their sweet child hearts.
Amelia has gotten in the habit of sneaking into bed or most recently just going to bed in my bed.  I have to say it has been a special treat to give her cuddles as she curls up to me and share sweet waking moments with my big girl, even it those moments come mighty early!  Little Stella and her gentle pats on my back as we sing and cuddle before bed, love these women.

Hanging at the LOVE ROCK

At the end of the street that both Graham and I grew up on is a big rock.  This rock is affectionately known as the love rock, we don't know why but it is.  When the girls and I go for walks it is always fun to stop by the rock.  On this particular day it Uncle Mikey was with us, therefore we could actually climb onto the rock.

It is fun, yet bizarre that Graham and I grew up on the same street.   I love that we are able to share the unique details of our neighborhood.  It is the bus stop at the end of the street where Graham and I met, it that same spot where Graham proposed.  It is fun to be able to tell the girls these special little things as we go for walks.

rockin out or rather chillin out

Edward Sharpe & the Magnetic Zeros

Mr. P and I love to enjoy a good live show!  Way back when, like 6 years ago we were weighing the pros/cons of moving to Edmonton 'attending concerts' was actually on our pro list, for real.   There is something magical about getting to see a band you like in concert.  Magical seems a bit nerdy but good tunes, in person....few things compare....entertainment wise that is!!!  Over our years together we have been privileged to see a lot of the bands we like, we still have a wish list of ones we would like to see.  My parents still hit up concerts of people they are into so I am guessing that Mr. P and I are going to be a greying/balding Grandma and Grandpa still hitting up wicked shows,  I hope we are anyway!!

(Poor Graham was up super early for a 6am web meeting at work)

Fall Picnic at Grandma's

A wedding, a Mom/Dad date and adorable park playing fun but I'll share a few pics from our picnic today and save the rest for later.

We arrived back in Fort Mac late last evening and I must say the trip went well.  A handful of potty breaks on the road side and a 20 min pit stop at the school park in Grassland but we finally made it.  This last run to and from Edmonton was my first solo trip with the girls. Usually my brother, mother, sisters or sis-in-law have been able to join us, I was a bit nervous but we did it, survived it.  The trip down consisted of some spaz out crying (no not by me!) but the trip back was a breeze. The only tears shed were when we had to leave our Dad in Fort Saskatchewan, Amelia started and we all had moist eyes as we pulled away.  Boo on being apart.  Families are just meant to be together!  Thank goodness we know Mr. P is in good hands at Jon n Al's place and we are so grateful to have a place with my gracious parents.

I am a bit of a bummer to have around as I am fighting off a cold so we had a pretty mello day.  Ran a few errands with Grandma, filled prescriptions but finished the sunny fall day off hanging out in the backyard and having dinner picnic style.  I just love the mini picnic table, it is so darling! Perfect for little people. We have to enjoy these warmer days while we can because the leaves are a changing.

I just love, love, love how the table is a perfect size for them!!!!

This is how the 'big folks' have to sit at the picnic table, either not at all or straddling the seat. Hahaha so fun though!!!

The funny thing about this pic is that Amelia loves talking about her bike, standing beside her bike, pushing her bike, even sitting on her bike but never really ever bikes very far on her bike....yet is instructing Stella on proper peddling procedure. Awesome!

Trying to enjoy the beautiful days while we can. The only thing that would make the evening better would be to have Mr. Prince Charming hanging out with us.  (Blah yes oh so cheesy but true!!)

Kingston Adventures: Crafting, Playing and Fun!

We had a busy week with cousin Kingston.  He is a super fun little dude!!!
His momma Leslie flew out with Alyson and Jacey to get set up at Ability Camp in Ontario, so he spent the week up in Fort Mac with us.  Because my mom works part time I was going to have a few days just them (3 under 3) and me!!! Ahhhh, I knew it would be ok but wanted to plan some fun activities to keep us busy...in a good way!
Pinterest and I are BFFs, I really can't take credit for the ideas only the implementation.  I must say it was fun to plan, prepare and then watch them have fun!  Love them.

Building a Fort  Kingston does this at home so I knew he would be into it!!! Love this pic with their heads together.  Missing Jacey, oh and Stella.

Back yard playing Note Amelia trying to keep up with Kingman.  At one point she asked for the ball, he tossed it at her - POW- right off the head!  Funny but not!  That dude has some serious gross motor skills.  He is also such a fan of being outside, it is like he is 'one with nature'...wants outside rain or shine.  Each night after dinner but before bath we would play or go for a walk and with out fail, even after promptings that there were 10, 5, 2 minutes left he would still say to us, "not yet".  What a guy!!
Some cute snap shots of Stella because she is so gosh darn adorable! She likes playing in the little play house.
 Classic swings!

After attending a kids library session we decided to copy an activity we saw and created some Dinosaur Puppets.  Kingman drew the green one and really liked my purple one, he was satisfied to roar and play.   Meanwhile Amelia drew and kept cutting pink ones (her favourite colour).  She LOVES scissors, I live in fear.

Masking tape car track!!! Ok, we used hockey tape.  This was a hit for the Kingman and he was obsessed the first day and visited it periodically the rest of the week.  Easy peasy and pretty cool!!!!
Mia was more into making silly faces (her new thing) then playing with cars.

Time Out  The evolution of this time out went as such: Mia disobeys and goes to the door for her three minute break...Kingston feels bad seeing her in tears and goes to join her...seconds later Stella comes and pretty much discipline attempt foiled! I just go grab the camera.

Play Doh The awesomeness and the annoyance of play doh must be noted!!!!  Such a fabulous activity loved by everyone short around here.  Annoyance includes clean up and play doh bits found throughout the house.  The good does win out.  Kingman would point and ask at least daily for play doh.  Only two colours were mixed this week, I'd call that success!

Letter Books The teacher in me couldn't resist this.  I made up duo tangs for each of them consisting of the letters for their names.  They are in sheet protectors and the kiddos used white erase makers...it was pretty cool!  The wiping off was fun for them, I just had to make sure after each use they were fully wiped...tough to get off if left...lesson learned.

Sorting, Patterns and Such   Mom had a ton of smiley face erasers and the possibilities were endless.  We started this one afternoon while the little girls were sleeping. We made patterns, worked on sorting and drove dirt bikes through them.

Swimming  Mac Island Pool is pretty darn nice!  Fort Mac deserves a nice facility like Mac Island.  It was near WWIII to get going and we almost did not make it but in the end everyone had a blast.  Worth it!

Sweet cousins!  Stella isn't really a baby anymore but the bigger kids still ask to hold her, sometimes she will oblige but other times, like below...not so much!!! I love Kingston's face here, "like come on Stella I am a nice boy, sit like a nice baby".

Dog Walking  Kingston is obsessed with walking Tula, nuff said!

Mia took this picture of Kingston and I, love it!  He is such a great dude.  We had a great week, had fun and all survived.  A few moments of frustration but a great week.  Love him.  My girls love him.  The Mia/Kingston hugs are ADORABLE, sadly I don't have a pic!!!  They occurred morning, night and after the odd sad moment during the day.  There is certainly a special bond between cousins.  Can't wait to have Jacey home again.
